How Coding Allows Young People to Solve Problems and Explore Opportunities
Meet Seth Raphael. He is a passionate programmer and web developer. He’s a freshman in high school whose passions include piano, ice hockey, and coding. The product of his interest in coding is the topic of this podcast: LinkJoin. I first met Seth when he sent me a message on LinkedIn. For anyone on the platform, you’ll relate when I say the spam problem is real.
However Seth’s message however immediately stood out. His professionalism, direct ask, and energy sparked my curiosity and as I learned more was so impressed that I knew he would be a great guest to share with my audience.
Seth was sharing how he had created LinkJoin, a website that organizes and automatically opens virtual classes and meetings. Students across the country in virtual school rack up unnecessary tardies just because of distraction on the computer. LinkJoin solves this problem by automatically opening their classes at the right time, taking them away from whatever else they’re doing on the computer and putting them into the class.
Seth’s story and passion not only exemplifies the value of practicing design thinking and the mindsets and skills that come as a result. In addition his story is the very goal of the podcast – to bridge the gap between leaders, young people, and researchers as we have conversations about how might we design schools.
