Social Influence

Designing Experiences that Give Students the Clarity and Confidence to Design Their Future

“I had always been taught how to interview, but no one one ever taught me how to be the interviewer.” Nancy Bosnoian.

This one sentence tells us everything we need to know about how the dynamic of today’s world has shifted for today’s learners. I first heard today’s guest, Nancy Bosnoian tell this story on Clubhouse. I’ve been spending a lot of time there recently and have been fascinated by the stories and experiences GenZ are sharing about their education and how they are making sense of their world. I often hear adults say how we need to teach creativity and entrepreneurship to young people. What I hear young people say is we are creative and we have ideas we’d like to see become businesses – we need the time, the space, the mindset to practice. Given that most schools don’t have these experiences, students are left to figure it out themselves.

Nancy Bosnoian is 21-years-old, originally from Aleppo, Syria, and a freshman at Columbia University. She is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of End No Sleep, Inc. an international NGO on a mission to help you get a good night’s sleep. Nancy is also a public speaker. She shares her experiences fleeing from war, finding a new home, learning to thrive. Her empathy, her self-awareness and her enthusiasm for why young people should use this time to pursue their dreams is both contagious and thoughtful.

In This Episode We Discuss:

  • How Nancy’s personal experiences with sleep led her to found End No Sleep
  • How her experiences as an entrepreneur led to a a realization of what was missing from her education experience
  • How she hires high school interns and the questions she asks them
  • Her experience fleeing war, being an immigrant to the United States and what she thinks about college and the American dream
  • Advice to those who are considering a gap year and how to plan for it
  • What she hopes to see evolve in the future of education
